It's a bird, It's a plane, It's ...

Pat Robertson. First he was able to use his x-ray vision to peer into the future and tell us that this was going to be another bad year for hurricanes. Now he is using his superman strength to leg press 2000 lbs. O.K., he says its the protein shakes he is drinking. In this morning's Star Tribune sports page, Michael Rand checked this out with Cal Dietz, an associate director of strength and conditioning for the Gophers:

"Come on," Dietz said, before adding, "I would say that's highly unlikely."

He said that while standards for leg press measurement vary and there's no world record as a result, an elite athlete likely would max out at 1,000 pounds. He works with men's hockey players, and he estimated 800 pounds would be the top leg press for the strongest player on the team.

So 2,000 pounds, even with a protein shake, is probably an overestimation?

"The claims that people make are absolutely ludicrous," Dietz said.

Recently in response to a wonderful mnpACT! blog post by Dave Mindeman (see) http://www.mnpact.org/sblog/index.php?cat=7 (Sorry I'm new at this and don't know how to tag this for an HTML link.) I was musing that I'd love to see George Carlin reprise his Hippy Dippy Weatherman character and have him and go toe-to-toe with Pat Robertson the Apocolyptic Weather Forecaster. Now maybe Hans and Frans (Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon from Saturday Night Live) Should reprise their roles and do a skit with Pat. "They vant to pump you up."

Pat Paulson has unfortunately passed away. But Dick and Tom Smothers are still around from their 60s variety show when they tapped Pat Paulson for President...Maybe that is where Pat is heading next...Another mock Presidential Candidacy sponsored by Tommy and Dicky?!
