We got to do something about energy

President Bush's sole public appearance on Labor Day was at a Seafarers International Union training facility -- the Paul Haul Center for Maritime Training and Education -- on the Chesapeake Bay where he talked about energy independence:
"We got to do something about energy, in order to make sure that we're competitive, that this economy will remain strong, that people are able to find work," he said. "But one thing is clear, is that dependence on foreign oil jeopardizes our capacity to grow. I mean, the problem is we get oil from some parts of the world and they simply don't like us. And so the more dependent we are on that type of energy, the less likely it will be that we are able to compete, and so people have good, high-paying jobs."
Yes we do "got" to do something about energy. What is apparent after 6 years of no action from this administration is that we got to get a new President. One who might consider things like raising the fuel standards of our auto fleet:
What Mr. Bush didn't mention and hasn't backed, Democratic Rep. Ed Markey points out to the Associated Press, was a key proposal aimed at easing U.S. addiction to foreign oil: an upgrading of fuel-economy standards from levels set in 1975 to reflect nearly 30 years of new technologies.
