Wellstone Remembered

I also missed being able to mark yesterday's anniversary, the 4th, of Paul Wellstone's death. His death precipitated a marked decline in the state of Minnesota politics, and probably also played a role in getting us into Iraq and the mess that has followed as he would have certainly led the charge against the war effort. Instead we got a spineless, opportunistic, political chameleon as his successor as our US Senator.

But for many of us his death was also the moment when we realized that we were going to have to get more involved politically and do our small part to try to fill his huge shoes. It has taken a few years to see the fruits of that effort but it is finally beginning to pay off.

WWWD?

I still mourn the loss of the hard-working, and exceedingly kind, decent and loving couple Paul and Sheila Wellstone.

I am feeling guilty today because if I were to ask myself WWWD? I'd be out turning out the vote for candidates who best represent his legacy. But where am I? I'm sitting behind my computer screen!

There's less than 2 weeks until the election and it is the "time of angst" for all candidates and their supporters when one wonders whether enough of the people who need to vote for you will show up and vote.

Anybody want to go out and do some doorknocking and lit dropping? I'm not feeling quite strong/brave enough to go do it alone.

WWWD Indeed!
